Guts

Telgemeier, R.
The newest addition to Raina Telgemeier’s autobiographical series, her graphic memoir “Guts,” explores Raina’s onset of anxiety, how she navigates her emotions, and how she develops some strategies to eventually manage her feelings. The book uses brightly-coloured images, easy-to-read text, detailed drawings, and a light-hearted narrative to explore the themes of identity, adolescence, and mental health. This novel is suitable for students in Grade 3–6 as a choice in literature circles and the novel may be particularly appropriate to invite deep and complex conversations in the classroom about mental wellness and anxiety.
