Hag-Seed

Atwood, M.
Margaret Atwood's retelling of The Tempest, follows Felix, a disgraced theatrical producer who was fired from his semi-successful Shakespearean festival. Believing himself defamed, he goes into hiding, but eventually becomes the literacy instructor at a local penitentiary, where Felix teaches his passion for Shakespeare and gives the inmates something to be proud of. Best read before the original play, this readable novel will engage students, help them understand the play, and highlight the timeless storyline. Some social considerations noted.
