Hastings Park 1942

A website designed as a reference site to provide information about the dark history of Hastings Park, its easy-to-use interface will allow users to access historical photographs, archival materials, and artistic responses that highlight the time in early 1942 when Canada declared war on Japan, and the PNE grounds at Hastings Park were used to house Japanese Canadians. Suitable for students from Grade 5 to 12, the resource provides an engaging and accurate account of Japanese internment and includes primary documents and first-hand accounts that offer a perspective that will allow students to question Canada’s human rights and discriminatory policies and encourage creative and critical thinking opportunities. In the classroom, the resource lends itself well to support a study of World War II, Japanese internment, discrimination, or media literacy.
