Hate That Cat
The process of writing journal entries in response to the poems his teacher reads helps Jack clarify and transform his feelings about important issues in his life. He is able to accept a kitten into his heart, in the place left empty by the death of his dog. He is also able to see the beauty in his deaf mother's ability to talk with her hands.
