Hear and Foretell
This collection of poetry by a Canadian First Nations author deals with his life, his many obstacles, and what it means to be Indigenous in a changing Canada. Having survived residential school, he returned home but had to face his past and deal with mental illness, all of which had an impact on trying to find his way in the world and form relationships. Suitable for grades 9-12, the poems deal with themes students today may struggle with, including the search for identity, relationships with family and friends, self-loathing, and mental illness, which can prompt discussion and an array of writing projects.
