Hey, You!: An Empowering Celebration of Growing Up Black
This story is an inspirational celebration of growing up Black and highlights Black talent, creativity, and achievement. It is a story of a baby born into a Black family and the advice the parents offer their child to encourage dreams, justice, storytelling, equality, and belonging. Colourful and engaging illustrations complement important messages that allow further learning and discussions to help build understanding and perspective. In the elementary-school classroom, it lends itself well as read-aloud for Black Excellence Day or Black History Month. It also lends itself well as a cross-curricular resource to broach lessons and discussions about race and structural racism and to help build understanding about the experiences of others.
