Hope Matters
This powerful Canadian poetry anthology, by three Indigenous women, explores the events, emotions, and understandings from first contact to reconciliation. Each chapter addresses a particular time period and topic and the challenges facing Indigenous Peoples including loss of culture, breakdown of family structure due to residential schools, violence suffered by Indigenous women, issues of homelessness, substance abuse, and generational trauma, while also stressing the importance of love and hope. Mature content and structure make it most suitable for senior Language Arts/Social Studies courses with teacher guidance. Social considerations noted.
