Hummingbird

Lloyd, N.
Olive lives with OI (osteogenesis imperfecta), a serious and life-altering disease, but she doesn't let it, or her wheelchair, define who she is as a person. After years of home schooling, she navigates middle school with determination, grace, and laughter and doesn’t let her disability get in the way. With her friend Grace, Olive searches for the famed hummingbird who can grant a magical wish, and while she wants strong bones, she wonders if she really wants to be any different than she is now. Suitable for use in literature circle groups on ability and disability, the novel addresses ability and disability, acceptance, belonging, challenging stereotypes, perseverance, and believing in oneself.
