Julia Reyes comes from a traditional Mexican family, but unlike her sister Olga, the perfect Mexican daughter, Julia rejects the gender roles and expectations of her mother and family. When Olga unexpectedly dies Julia suspects there is something not quite right about her death and when she finds an hotel key and lacy underwear in Olga’s bedroom she sets out to find the truth about her sister while trying to deal with her family’s loss. This contemporary and relatable novel focuses on themes of friendship, love, loss, sibling rivalry, family, mental health, and cultural expectations and identity.
