If I Go Missing

Fourteen-year-old Brianna writes to her local chief of police, challenging the injustices Indigenous girls and women have suffered in Canada. She asks the chief that if she were ever to go missing to please not treat her life as if it had no meaning; rather, speak of her goals and dreams. This engaging Canadian graphic novel, inspired by visiting the REDress art installation, provides insight into the treatment of Indigenous women and girls and can be used to launch reading, writing, and discussion of institutionalized racism, human rights, colonization, and Canada’s relationships with Indigenous peoples.
