Internment

Ahmed, S.
In a future U.S. run by a fascist leader, seventeen-year-old Layla and her family must leave their home in California and are relocated to an internment camp for Muslims where they have no civil rights and dissenters are beaten or killed. Layla and others who oppose their treatment form a resistance movement and Layla plays a key role in making their plight known. This timely novel deals with discrimination, hatred, internment, and racial intolerance, and students will see the threats faced by people whose faith, colour, or cultures don’t fit with mainstream culture. Suitable for a class novel, literature circles, or individual novel study. Social considerations noted.
