Ivory And Bone

Eshbaugh, J.
Kol, his brothers, and parents are part of a hunter-gatherer clan during the Ice Age but as their clan is dominated by young men they must ally themselves with another clan to meet future wives. Kol meets Mya, a strong woman who intrigues, challenges, and frustrates him, and later meets Lo from a different clan, and must decide which woman is truthful and honourable, but when one betrays him a battle ensues. An effective choice for a literature circle or independent novel study for grades 8-12, the novel raises the issue of responsibility to one’s community especially when it conflicts with one’s values. Written in the less common second person point of view.
