Kensuke's Kingdom

Morpurgo, Michael
This novel has a simple but compelling plot. Through a series of events, a boy named Michael finds himself on a tropical island and discovers that he isn’t alone. Kensuke is an old man, a Japanese survivor who’s been there since World War II. Portrayed as individuals with unique abilities and experiences, Michael and Kensuke develop a relationship that moves from one of antagonism to one that sees them understanding each other’s differences – and eventually becoming like father and son.
