Kiddo
Ten-year-old Kiddo aspires to be her town’s Junior Journalist and she spends all summer helping in her community to gain points to win the position. She experiences a number of hiccups, but when her family is robbed her actions to get justice lead to her big scoop and with her neighbour Winston they write an article that ultimately wins them the shared journalist position. The main character exhibits self-motivation, determination, passion, and persistence which may inspire some students. Best suited to independent reading, as a supported text for fluent readers in a literature circle, and as a class or school library addition.
