King of the Screwups
When popular, athletic high school senior Liam is thrown out by his abusive father after one too many poor choices, Liam moves in with an uncle who he barely remembers. Aunt Pete, a gay glam-rocker, provides Liam the opportunity to reinvent himself and while Liam tries to become the studious nerd who his father will finally love and accept, Aunt Pete challenges Liam to discover and embrace his true nature. Suitable for grades 9-12, the novel addresses many issues, including family acceptance, friendship, and self-worth, and could be a literature circle or an independent novel choice.
