Kits, Cubs, and Calves: An Arctic Summer

Napayok-Short, S.
When Akuluk visits her family in Nunavut they go on a boat trip on the Arctic Ocean where they encounter a variety of Arctic animals, including whales, foxes, and polar bears. Akuluk learns about and sees how the animals protect their young in the ecosystem, how they keep themselves safe from predators and other dangers, and learns about the importance of caring for the environment. This Canadian picture book, with brightly coloured and detailed illustrations, can be used for a class read-aloud to explore Indigenous perspectives on how all we are all related, how animals, humans, and nature can coexist in a respectful and sustainable way, and to learn about life in different areas of Canada.
