Labyrinth Lost
Seventeen-year-old Alex might live in the US but she comes from a long line of Latin-American brujas, or witches. When her family is taken to a fantastical realm she must undertake a quest filled with obstacles to save her family, and along the way she faces her bisexuality, personal and familial responsibilities, and her emerging powerful abilities as a bruja. This magical coming-of-age story deals with love, family, personal and social identity, self-acceptance, gender identity, sexual orientation, conquering self-doubt, perseverance, and overcoming fear and adversity. Suitable for independent reading or a literature circle title for grades 7-10.
