When aliens visit Earth and offer humans a “great” deal – their advanced technology which can replace human labour – the humans agree, expecting a grand result, but the consequences are economic collapse and humans being pretty much obsolete. Adam and his family struggle to make ends meet until Adam enters an art competition to try and raise their chances, and eventually they have a fresh start in life. This humorous, satirical novella for senior grades will let students to see life for the less fortunate and those in third world countries. Useful as a class, lit circle, or independent novel, it could launch discussion of sustainability, poverty, art, and colonialism.
