Leah on the Offbeat

High school senior, rock band drummer Leah is approaching the end of her final year at school and faces an array of emotions and issues. While she has come out to her Mom as bisexual, her friends – including her best friend Simon who is gay– do not know, and Leah struggles with her feelings for a female friend who is in a traditional boyfriend-girlfriend relationship. This realistic, contemporary novel is suitable for a novel study, independent novel, or a literature circle, and explores relatable teen issues of confidence, positive body image, maintaining friendships, exploring new relationships, feeling scared and anxious about one’s feelings, thinking about one’s sexuality, and applying for college.
