List of Things That Will Not Change

Twelve-year-old Bea reflects on her parents’ divorce when she was eight, her father’s marriage to his boyfriend Jesse, the anticipation of a new step-sister, and the list she was given of what would not change with the divorce. Bea describes her struggles with these complex situations and how a counsellor helped her come to terms with these challenges and her emotions, actions, and responses to them. This engaging novel for grades 4-7 has a very relatable character and is suitable for a read-aloud, literature circle, and to launch discussions of topical issues of same-sex relationships, feelings, healthy relationships, and mental health support.
