Look out for the Fitzgerald-Trouts

Spalding, E.
In this engaging novel, four siblings live on their own in a car on a tropical island, without a house or parents to care for them. These resourceful, optimistic kids live a relatively normal life – attending school, eating, sleeping, bathing, and playing – but their first priority of finding a house to call home sends them on a quest around the island faced with challenges and dangers, but they persevere and find a place to call home...for now. Suitable for grades 3-6, the book lends itself to a variety of critical thinking and reflection activities and discussion of family, homelessness, and living in poverty. The ending leaves the readers eager for the sequel.
