Lotterys Plus One, The

Donoghue, E.
The Lotterys are a family of seven children, a lesbian couple, and a gay couple who live in an old house in Toronto and homeschool the children. Their idyllic life is turned upside down when a grandfather comes to live with them unexpectedly as he has dementia, and the children, parents, and grandfather struggle with a series of negative encounters, but eventually learn to appreciate their differences and recognize similarities. A helpful resource for a grade 4-7 unit on families that could facilitate discussions about non-traditional families, home-schooling, adoption, LGBTQ understanding, racism, or stereotypes.
