Like a Love Story

Nazemian, A.
Art, Reza, and Judy live in New York in the late 1980s, during the AIDS epidemic. Art is openly gay but Reza dates Judy as he is too afraid to admit he’s homosexual. When Reza comes out it ends his relationship with Judy but ignites a romance with Art. When Judy’s Uncle Stephen, who is gay and the boys’ mentor, dies, the three friends are reunited by his death. This engaging novel deals with LGBTQ+ issues, adversity, fear, loss, discrimination, activism, and being comfortable in one’s own skin. Social considerations noted. Mature themes, language, and sexual content make it suitable for older students, as part of a literature circle or a class or school library book.
