Manny's Memories
A grandfather tells his grandchildren about his life in the 1940s in the Metis community of Round Prairie, just outside of Saskatoon. His loosely connected memories recount the daily tasks of Metis life, including logging, berry picking, and hunting. The story is told in both English and Michif, includes photos from the time, traditional Cree art, and illustrations. A useful read-aloud for Grade 3-6 students to support exploration of Metis culture and heritage, and to use critical thinking to compare/contrast their family traditions with Manny’s.
