Paj Ntaub is a young Hmong girl who finds herself in a new country, learning to navigate her new life in a foreign land as well as the changes of the seasons and to her family. Providing an insight into the complexity of the human condition from a young child’s perspective, this poetic story about acceptance and hope highlights the traditions and customs of the Hmong people while inviting readers to reflect on the diversity of their communities and encouraging an appreciation for the differences, traditions, and customs across various cultures. In a primary classroom, the book may be used to introduce the literary elements of characterization, theme, and plot, and its first-person narrative may inspire writing activities and personal storytelling.
