Material World: A Global Family Portrait

Menzel, P.
This resource provides a snapshot of the material life of families in 30 nations in the 1990s. Extensive, colour photographs capture the family, their possessions, and home. Organized by geographical regions, statistical information for each country is presented, but information is out-of-date and reflects an historical record. The author’s website does offer some new photographs and basic updates on some of the families and their newly acquired possessions. Students could use the resource to study the families and predict how their lives have changed, and to compare and contrast to their own lives to those included in the text.
