milk and honey
Canadian Instagram poet rupi kaur’s autobiography, told through poetry, prose, and illustrations, presents her personal, bitter experiences of childhood sexual abuse, the breakup of an intense relationship as a teen/young adult, and the hurt and healing she experienced. It openly and at times vividly presents issues of sex, love, romance, abuse, heartbreak, and healing. Given the nature of the content, this book is best used as a whole-class novel for mature grade 12 students with teacher guidance to ensure the themes are discussed with care and context. Social considerations noted; teacher pre-reading highly recommended.
