Milo Imagines The World
A picture book with a thoughtful and engaging narrative, this compelling story addresses several contemporary themes that encourage readers to empathize with others, especially if they are different. Milo and his sister board the subway, and Milo imagines the stories of all the passengers he encounters. But when he realizes he’s mistaken about another boy, Milo reflects on the conclusions he drew about everyone else. Suitable in a Grade K–9 classroom, this story may encourage readers to discuss various timely and sensitive themes and inspire them to use their imaginations to create different scenarios in order to develop characters and narratives in their own writing and stories. The book’s themes may also encourage class discussions about conclusions we might make about others based on assumptions and biases.
