Minds of Winter

O'Loughlin, E.
Fay Morgan, wanting information about her grandfather who served in the Arctic post World War II, and Nelson Nilsson, seeking his brother, a polar scientist, meet in Inuvik. Their searches are linked by a chronometer from the Franklin expedition which mysteriously appeared in Great Britain 100 years later. They learn about the people involved in the ill-fated Franklin expedition and how they are linked to their families. This Canadian saga of polar exploration is told by multiple narrators and different types of documents, and represents the time period accurately. Useful as a class or independent novel, and to launch discussion or inquiry projects about polar exploration.
