Missing, The
After a young Indigenous girl turns up dead in the Red River, Mia mysteriously goes missing. But when the death of the teen and the disappearance of Feather’s best friend are written off by local authorities and ignored, Feather takes it upon herself to investigate. The story follows Feather’s quest for the truth and her journey as she struggles to cope with what is going on while broaching mature subjects and serious issues in a language that is easy to read and understand. Suitable for senior secondary students, “The Missing” may be used as part of an integrated study of historical and contemporary Indigenous issues in Canada. Teachers may use this novel to invite discussions on sensitive topics that bring to light the effects of systemic racism against Indigenous people.
