Monkey Island

Fox, Paula
When abandoned by his mother, an 11-year-old boy decides to live in a park while waiting for her return, rather than being apprehended by social services. This novel brings to light the contemporary problems of homelessness and change in socio-economic status. Due to the many social issues and some language that may warrant teaching and discussion, this short, easy-to-read novel is recommended as a read-aloud. This is a powerfully written story with strong development of the main character.
