Not Quite Narwhal

Sima, J.
Kelp was born in the ocean, has a short horn, dislikes calamari, and is a slow swimmer, but doesn't let these challenges stop him from enjoying his life as a narwhal, as he doesn't realize he is actually a unicorn. When he explores life on land he meets other unicorns that accept him and teach him about his unicorn abilities. This colourful and humorous twist on a classic story of mistaken identity for K-3 is useful as a read-aloud, oral retelling, partner/independent reading, and Writer’s Workshop. Can support discussion of differences, cooperation, resilience, community building, teamwork, perseverance, optimism, friendship, and inclusion.
