Nothing Rhymes With Orange

Rex, A.
In this story-in-rhyme, the fruits use their names to create a playful rhyme, but poor Orange is left out as nothing rhymes with “him”. He becomes frustrated and lonely as even obscure fruit, such as Quince and Lychee, are included and he is not, but his friend Apple doesn’t give up on Orange and creates a brand new word to ensure Orange feels part of the group. This lighthearted and humorous book with colourful images will appeal to K-3 students and can be used to discuss isolation, friendship, empathy, and inclusion. A useful read-aloud, and for study of rhymes and puns, lessons about friendship and inclusivity, and visuals about healthy foods or cartooning.
