One Small Dog

Hurwitz, Johanna
This novel could serve as a read-aloud for late primary students or could be read independently by early intermediate students. The adoption of a young pet dog, Sammy, becomes an issue between two parents who have separated and have very different lifestyles. One of his difficulties involves the fact that he has to move back and forth between his home and his dad’s new apartment. This situation could be too familiar to some students; teachers will need to handle this with sensitivity.
