This One Summer
Every year Rose and her family spend their summer vacation in Awago and Rose is excited to return with her memories of years past. This year, though, Rose is older and sees things with teenage eyes rather than children’s eyes and life is quite different: her parents fight, her relationship with them is difficult, things are changing with her summer friend Windy, and she is learning a lot about life from the teenagers in Awago. This Canadian coming-of-age story, in graphic novel form, may be used for an independent novel study, or as part of a literature circle or thematic unit dealing with adolescence, identity, friendship, and the complexities and difficulties of growing up. Social considerations noted and a strong language caution.
