One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies

Despite the title, this story is not “one of those hideous books where the mother dies.” Ruby, Sones’ endearing protagonist, opens her heart to the reader at a period in her life that is proving most difficult. Her mother has just died and she is wrenched away from everything familiar about her middle-class life and thrust into the Hollywood lifestyle of her widely successful movie star dad, a man with whom she has no relationship.
