Oranges In No Man's Land

Laird, Elizabeth
Ten year old Ayisha’s mother is killed in Beirut when a bomb hits their family home. Grandma, Ayisha and Ayisha’s younger brothers, Latif and baby Ahmed, run to safety. The quartet find sanctuary in a bombed out building thanks to the compassionate welcome of another Lebanese family hiding there. As the days pass, Ayisha plays with and learns from Samar the deaf-mute daughter of the family that takes them in. Granny does an admirable job of caring for everybody until she falls ill.
