Outside People and Other Stories

Pirbhai, M.
The short stories in this contemporary collection are either set in Canada or involve Canadians abroad. Some reflect the positive and negative experiences of recent immigrants to Canada, while others are set abroad and demonstrate Canadians visiting and being involved in those nations. They provide opportunities for critical thinking about norms and practices in Canada, and present viewpoints from a variety of cultures that have helped shape Canadian society. This resource could be used for a short story unit or the stories individually could be used thematically in ELA courses. Useful for class study, literature circles, or independent reading in grades 8-12.
