Over and Under the Snow

Messner, K.
As a father and his daughter share a cross-country skiing adventure they experience the secret kingdom over and under the snow. They encounter and discuss how the animals from the tree tops to under the ground and snow survive the winter months, including adaptations such as camouflage and hibernation. The detailed drawings shift perspectives from a child skiing on top of the snow, to animals under the snow, and even to an owl high in a tree. Suitable as a read-aloud during a unit on biodiversity, for solo or partner reading, and to encourage discussion in K-4 classrooms.
