Over A Thousand Hills I Walk With You

Jansen, Hanna
Eight-year-old Dede survived the 1994 Rwandan genocide and was adopted by Hanna Jensen, the author of the book. She witnesses the brutal murders of her mother and brother and learns about her father's murder. The descriptions are graphic but not gratuitous, illustrating the mindless violence of the Rwandan genocide. The main story of Dede's witnessing of the genocide alternates with Jensen's first-person addresses to Dede. Jensen's narrative deals with the theme of healing.
