Pedro and Me: Friendship, Loss, and What I Learned

Winick, Judd
This graphic novel tells the true story of Pedro Zamora, a young Cuban immigrant to the US who was diagnosed with AIDS at the age of 17 and died from it at age 22. The novel offers powerful insights into friendship, loss and understanding but the frank nature of the sex education segments make it important that teachers consider the maturity level of their students and the values of their community before choosing to use it.
