Pictures of Hollis Woods
Hollis, abandoned as an infant, has experienced several foster homes and longs to finally find her own family. She is placed with Josie, a retired teacher whose faculties are gradually diminishing, and Hollis feels compelled to protect Josie and is finally able to change her perception of herself and to find the family she longs for. Suitable for read-aloud, lit circles, and class libraries, the novel deals with foster care, dependence, family, acceptance, belonging, self-concept, identity, resilience, and problem solving. Grade 6-8 students will relate to and empathize with Hollis and her experiences.
