Planet Grief

Polak, M.
Among teens at a weekend grief counseling workshop are Abby, who lost her mother and does not wish to attend the workshop with her dad, and Christopher, whose dad died two years ago, and who really does not want to talk about it. As the weekend progresses the teens make friendships, start to open up, and learn how they can help themselves, and when the counselor suffers a heart attack Christopher steps in to save him until the ambulance arrives and he finally realizes the impact his father had on his life. This honest book for grades 7-9 deals with grief following the loss of a family member, friendship, trust, and honesty, and could be used for a novel study, class read-aloud, or literature circle.
