Poetry Speaks Who I Am

This poetry anthology includes a variety of poems from different perspectives, cultural backgrounds, and historical periods, with a focus on identity, so teens from many backgrounds will be able to relate to issues raised. The poems are at a number of different reading levels, making the book suitable for grades 8-12. The resource would be at home in a class or school library, and individual poems could be used in the classroom to analyze topics and styles of poetry and literary devices. Some of the poems are read aloud on the accompanying CD, allowing for oral language connections. Teacher preview of the poems recommended.
