Proudest Blue, The

Muhammad, I.; Ali, S.K.
When Asiya wears her beautiful blue hijab for the first time at school, some students make fun of and bully her, but Asiya and her younger sister ignore them and remain proud of their culture. This accessible and colourful picture book is suitable for a read-aloud, to foster class discussions, and as a class or school library addition. It promotes cultural awareness and deals with issues of wearing a hijab, finding joy and pride in diverse cultures, religions, and identities, racism, bullying, tolerance, inclusivity, discrimination, and similarity and difference in a gentle and age-appropriate manner. It can encourage students to celebrate pride in their own culture.
