Pulse Point

Nelson, C.; Chappell-Pollack, N.
This novel is set in an imagined, futuristic, post-climate change society, where citizens live in domed cities and energy consumption and production are controlled by an electronic pulse point, located in the tip of each citizen’s finger. The protagonist, Kaia, is faced with a difficult decision when her pulse point stops working and a loved one is in danger of being "balanced". This novel may be of particular interest to students curious about dystopian literature. The text allows for classroom discussions around many modern themes, including human response to climate change, society's treatment of aging populations, the future of energy, and the rights of the collective versus the rights of the individual.
