In Real Life
Anda, a teenage gamer, joins an online guild of all female gamers, and is approached to play as a missionary for other gamers and get paid for her work. She encounters gold farmers who sell the gold they mine to other players, learns that many of them are Chinese workers working under terrible conditions, and, using her online network, helps the workers unite. This engaging, contemporary graphic novel presents the topical issues of gold farming, labour rights, ethics in gaming, and the Internet as a social mobilizer. Useful as a class, individual or literature circle novel or anchor text for inquiry in grades 8-12.
