Redpatch

Calvert, R.; Oliver, S. H.
Both a play and a graphic novel, “Redpatch” tells a story that accurately depicts the roles of Indigenous Canadians fighting in the First World War. Jonathon Woodrow, a young Indigenous soldier, endures the horrors of war and the racial injustices he faced as a soldier and later as a veteran. “Redpatch” is appropriate in a secondary classroom; both texts are suitable for an English Language Arts classroom to study the dramatic genre or for an opportunity to practice oral language skills. As a play, “Redpatch” extensively supports the First Peoples Principles of Learning.
