River, A
In this picture book, for grades K-3, a child watches a long, meandering river outside her window. She then imagines a sailboat journey along the river, starting in the busy city, passing through industrial land, farmland, forest, and jungle, all the way to the ocean, then back to the city at night. With simple text and detailed illustrations, readers will be exposed to the idea of rivers as transportation corridors, connecting many different kinds of lands. Suitable as a read aloud, the book encourages creative thinking and could be used as a template for students to write or draw about their own imaginary journey.
