Salmon Bears: Giants of the Great Bear Rainforest

Ian McAllister & Nicholas Read
This B.C. Book Prize Honour Book is an engaging resource for a multidisciplinary study of the Great Bear Rainforest. Both students and teachers are well-served by the resource. The reference book offers abundant, colourful, natural photography, and text that is widely readable. Bear facts sidebars raise interesting questions and provide answers. Teachers will appreciate the extensive online learning guide that identifies relevant PLOs, and includes recommendations for further reading, multidisciplinary lesson plans for each chapter, discussion and extension ideas, blackline masters, activities that attempt to provide for a wide range of learning styles, and related websites. A great fit for a grade seven study of ecosystems, it would also be a useful language arts or multidisciplinary resource for grades 4 through 7.
